An Outing with the Southeast Sportbike Association
It was the early days of the Internet and I’d discovered a, now defunct, group out of Atlanta that shared a newsletter and had occasional group rides. My buddy Mike and I accompanied them on a trip to Deal’s Gap with an overnight stay, dinner, and a VHS movie at the “Crossroads of Time”.
That was my first visit to “The Dragon” and I still have the tee shirt. Although now it fits a little snugly.

Spartan Accommodations
The rooms were very simple. A pair of twin beds and a full bath. I don’t recall if there was a TV, but it wouldn’t have been important as we spent most of our time talking to the other riders.

Basic Black
It was March and still a bit chilly in the mountains. The serious guys were wearing full leathers. My warm alternative was a pair of ski bibs over my jeans. Surplus Vietnam-era combat boots completed the ensemble.

Carburetor Surgeons
These guys were going to great lengths to get rid of a “stumble” and eke out the buttery smoothness that makes riding the curves such a joy.
I was impressed that they had brought along enough tools to remove the carbs and get to that level of disassembly.
